How hard are our escape rooms?

Which one should you pick as first-timers or as experienced players?

First-time teams are very welcome too!

No experience needed. You can safely pick any of our games even if none of you has ever been in an escape room. But an easier game here doesn't mean fewer puzzles.

Looking for your first escape room, or an experienced team after a new challenge? At AROOM and Locked Room you can choose anything from easier adventures to complex missions for seasoned players.

Three things help you choose best: how much you have played so far, how many of you are coming, and what kind of story you would enjoy. Mood matters as much as difficulty: an easier investigation can be creepy, and a hard mission can be completely free of scares.

Quick help with choosingWhat kind of team are you?

Our suggestion

The “Not hard” level is a safe place to start.

Not hard games

These are rough guidelines. If you are unsure, we will help you find the game that suits your team.

What makes an escape room hard?

Solving the puzzles mostly takes observation, logical thinking, association and teamwork. You need no special knowledge, and you don't have to know the original story behind our film- or series-inspired games.

An easier game here doesn't mean fewer puzzles. These missions also have plenty to discover and many mysteries to solve, but the connections are easier to spot. In the harder rooms you have to work out more complex links, and how you share information with each other matters even more.

How hard a game feels varies from team to team. You may crack an observation puzzle in seconds, while for another group a logical connection is what clicks right away.

Level 1 · Beginners welcome

Not hard: a good choice for your first escape

You can safely pick these games even if none of you has ever been in an escape room. For experienced teams the fun lies in exploring, the story and smooth teamwork.

Level 2

Medium: when you are happy to work for the solution

Here you need to spot more connections, and it really helps to follow each other's discoveries. Several of these games work for complete beginners; for others some earlier experience comes in handy.

  • Dragon's Dungeon

    Recommended age: 12+

    AROOM · Király u. 14.

A padlock-free fantasy adventure where your decisions shape the game. It can work as a first game, but with a small team it is a real challenge.

  • Sky Heist

    Recommended age: 10+

    AROOM · Király u. 14.

A cinematic heist aboard an airship. Especially good if some of the team have played before, or if you come in a bigger group.

  • Metro

    Recommended age: 10+

    AROOM · Király u. 14.

A realistic metro station, a fast-paced mission and a tight clock. Best if at least a few of you already know how escape rooms work.

  • Deadland

    Recommended age: 14+

A post-apocalyptic zombie adventure in a big two-level game space. Doable for beginners if you are up for a busier mission and surprise effects.

  • Serial Killer

    Recommended age: 16+

    Locked Room · Székely M. u. 4.

A tense crime investigation. Popular with beginner teams too, but because of its story we recommend it for bolder players.

  • Magic Shop

    Recommended age: 12+

    AROOM · Király u. 14.Coming soon

A mysterious investigation woven with stage magic and sorcery is on its way, with medium-level puzzles.

Level 3

Advanced: when you have got the hang of escaping

If a few games have taught you how to search, link clues together and move forward as a team, these missions are a good next step.

  • Uncharted Expedition

    Recommended age: 10+

    AROOM · Király u. 14.

An ancient temple, exploration and more complex puzzles. Good for a family adventure if the adults are happy to take a bigger part in solving it.

  • Neon Hawk

    Recommended age: 10+

    AROOM · Király u. 14.

A futuristic manhunt on the trail of a missing hacker. Recommended especially for more experienced teams of 2–4.

  • Project Heisenberg

    Recommended age: 14+

    Locked Room · Székely M. u. 4.

A series-inspired high-tech action mission in a disguised lab. You don't need to know the original series.

  • SevenHill

    Recommended age: 16+

    Locked Room · Székely M. u. 4.

An investigation in an oppressive hospital setting. The advanced puzzles come with a stronger thriller mood.

For complete beginners these can be a bigger challenge. If one of the stories really caught your eye, ask us for advice before you book.

Level 4 · For seasoned teams

Hard: for seasoned teams

We recommend these games mainly to players who have done several escape rooms and are looking for a genuinely complex challenge.

  • House of Escobar

    Recommended age: 14+

    AROOM · Király u. 14.

A padlock-free investigation in a cartel boss's two-level house. Complex team puzzles; we recommend it for at least three players.

  • Ghost Castle

    Recommended age: 12+

    AROOM · Király u. 14.

A magical castle adventure with lots to discover and harder connections. A good choice for bigger, experienced teams too.

  • Bunker

    Recommended age: 12+

    Locked Room · Székely M. u. 4.

A completely padlock-free high-tech mission, one of our hardest games. For teams of up to six.

Hard doesn't mean you will be stuck all the time. It means the mission calls for more independent insights, coordinated work and escape room experience.

Difficulty and a scary mood are two different things

An easier game can still be creepy. And a hard one can still be calm.

Zodiac, for example, has puzzles that suit beginners, but because of its theme and the murder scenes it shows we recommend it from age 16. Bunker, on the other hand, is hard, but the challenge comes from the puzzles and the ticking clock.

Calm mood

If you would rather avoid the shivers, have a look at the worlds of Dream House, the Pirate ship, Metro, Sky Heist, Uncharted Expedition or Neon Hawk, for example.

Mysterious, sinister, thriller

If you like a more mysterious, sinister mood, Motel, Deadland or Ghost Castle may interest you. Serial Killer, Zodiac and Sevenhill offer a stronger crime and thriller atmosphere.

More help with choosing

Is it easier as two or as a bigger team?

Two players get the full escape room experience too: each of you gets more to discover and solve, and you think together all the way. For a first game together, Dream House or the Pirate ship is a good start. If darker crime themes appeal to you, Zodiac is an option too.

In a bigger team more eyes spot the clues and more ideas come up. But numbers alone don't replace communication: tell each other what you have found, and keep an eye on what the others are working on.

The number of players you can book for and the ideal team size are not always the same. We recommend Neon Hawk mainly for 2–4 players, for example, and House of Escobar for at least three.

Which one should you choose with children?

With children, consider the story, the recommended age and the layout of the game space as well as the difficulty of the puzzles.

From age 6, Dream House is the obvious choice. From 8, the Pirate ship is a great family adventure too. From 10, Metro, Sky Heist, Uncharted Expedition or Neon Hawk can work, depending on the team's experience. From 12, Dragon's Dungeon, Motel, Ghost Castle or Bunker are options as well, but their difficulty and mood differ a lot.

These family recommendations assume an accompanying adult; without an adult we recommend these games from age 14. For the crime and thriller games marked 16+, take the content recommendation into account separately.

Family-friendly doesn't necessarily mean easy: in Bunker or Ghost Castle the adults may have a tough job too.

Does it matter how much moving around there is?

Yes, and it is worth treating separately from the logical difficulty. An easier game can have a narrow passage, while an advanced mission may be physically less demanding.

In Neon Hawk you have to use a ladder several times. In Motel and Zodiac every team member has to get through a narrow opening. In Sevenhill every player also has to pass through a narrow passage, and one team member has to climb a ladder.

If ladders, tight spaces, low ceilings or flashing lights could be a problem, check the game's detailed information before booking, or ask us to help you choose.

What happens if you get stuck?

A game master follows your adventure and can help you move on when needed. Asking for help can be a natural part of the game, especially the first time.

How the help works: the game master watches your game on monitors and either puts a visual clue on the game's screen in the room, or gives you a hint over the microphone to bring you closer to the solution.

If you are a seasoned team and want to solve as much as possible on your own, mention it at the briefing before the game.

You have 60 minutes for every mission. The aim is to discover the story together, spot the connections and move forward with as many wins of your own as possible.

Choose an adventure that truly interests you!

For a first time the “Not hard” level is a safe choice; with some experience, look around the medium and advanced missions; and as a seasoned team you can take on our hardest games too.

Beyond the level, follow your curiosity as well: would you hunt for treasure on a pirate ship, explore an ancient temple, or follow the trail of a crime?
